The Friends of John Bryan State Park organized in 2003 when a group of interested park patrons saw an opportunity to create a relationship between the state park and a private, not-for-profit group.  This relationship is intended to enhance the ability of the park staff to fulfill their mission and to provide an opportunity for members of the community to become involved in the park's operation.

The Friends formed with a few immediate goals in mind.  These goals include providing new public events that would increase local community involvement in the park, fundraising to partially finance the addition of a shower house to the campground and lay the ground work for the addition of more modern restrooms to the campground.
